Earle Folger – Percussionist
Hi, my name is Earle Folger. I am a percussionist for the Summerville Orchestra and have been since 2008. I originally picked up the drums because I thought it would make me popular with the girls! I was wrong…again. I started playing in the 7th grade middle school band. I played through high school with the marching band, symphonic band and jazz band. While in college, I played with the college band and summer theater ensembles. I stopped playing when I realized I needed to concentrate on finishing my engineering degree. I didn’t play with any groups for about 20 years and then I joined the S.O. in 2008. I joined the S.O. because their rehearsal schedule and performance times fit around the other activities I do (i.e. church volunteer work and family activities). I continue to perform with the S.O. because of the great music we’re playing and because of the wonderful people I get to work with. Outside of playing, I work for the Federal Government as an Environmental Engineer. Previously, I was a Nuclear Engineer and my daughter says, I went from blowing up the world to hugging trees!

Hola, mi nombre es Earle Folger. Soy percusionista de la Orquesta de Summerville y lo he sido desde 2008. Originalmente empecé a tocar la batería porque pensé que eso me haría popular entre las chicas. ¡Me equivoqué… otra vez! Comencé a tocar en la banda de la escuela secundaria en séptimo grado. Toqué durante la secundaria con la banda de marcha, la banda sinfónica y la banda de jazz. Mientras estaba en la universidad, toqué con la banda universitaria y en conjuntos de teatro de verano. Dejé de tocar cuando me di cuenta de que necesitaba concentrarme en terminar mi carrera de ingeniería. No toqué con ningún grupo durante unos 20 años y luego me uní a la S.O. en 2008. Me uní a la S.O. porque su horario de ensayos y tiempos de presentación se ajustaban a las otras actividades que realizo (es decir, trabajo voluntario en la iglesia y actividades familiares). Continúo actuando con la S.O. por la excelente música que tocamos y por las maravillosas personas con las que trabajo. Fuera de la música, trabajo para el Gobierno Federal como Ingeniero Ambiental. Anteriormente, fui Ingeniero Nuclear y mi hija dice que pasé de hacer explotar el mundo a abrazar árboles.
